Results of the auction held in Dublin on the 16th of January 2000

I am very pleased to inform you that the first auction organised by International Chess Auctions on the 16th of January 2000 was a huge success. Collectors from various countries sent in their bids, while some attended the auction in person. The interest shown in the auction confirms that there is a need for a place where chess collectors can desired items and sell some of their duplicates. We hope that soon our Auction House will become such a place!

Most items were sold, with only 9 lots unsold, having not reached their reserves. These are lots No. 7, 8, 10, 11, 15, 48, 52, 53 and 54. Many lots attracted multiple bids and in some cases winning bids well exceeded the reserves. We believe that the run of 'Wiener Schachzeitung' (lots No. 44 and 45) was sold for a record price. Results of the auction are available on request - if you would like to receive it, please e-mail me at ababurin@iol.ie, giving your full name and specifying in what format you would like to receive the list (pdf or Word 97).

We plan to have our second auction in April 2000 (the exact date will be announced shortly). This leaves potential sellers with enough time to consider their position and contact us via e-mail or post. After preliminary discussions, items can be posted to us via surface mail, which makes shipment more economical. If you would like to offer anything at our next auction, please do not hesitate to contact me. My e-mail addresses: ababurin@iol.ie and baburin@hotmail.com.

At our next auction we may not use estimates, but we will definitely specify minimum bids. It is up to a seller whether or not to set a (hidden) reserve, but all such reserves must be discussed with the auctioneers prior to submitting items for an auction. In the future we will not accept bids made in currencies other then euro, as it makes it difficult to compare bids.

Finally, I would like to thank all people who participated in the auction and also those, who provided very useful feedback about this site and our business idea in general.

With best regards,

Alexander Baburin
